When Camie and Timothe got engaged I spoke to the Resort and arranged a special dinner on the dock for them and they also decorated their suite. It was lovely and Bosco and I also paid for their drinks that evening. The next day, the Manager of the Resort sought them out, after breakfast and said he also had a special treat for them. I was sitting with them and he has a thick Indonesian accent and what we heard was he was going to meet them at 8 pm and take them into jungle, behind our huts and take them to get coconuts, that come in many colors? We also heard him say they make a special treat, very sweet and we thought he said crepes? We were intrigued, but also curious why at 8pm in the dark and he also mentioned cholesterol?? The rest of the day, we joked about the great coconut adventure they were about to get! Special newly engaged package!

At 5:30 pm the Resort took all the guest over to Yeben Rock ( tiny island above, to watch the sunset) then we came back, had our daily briefing and then dinner. The excitement was building as we got closer to 8pm. The Manager came over a little after 8pm and we can't take the suspense anymore. We have finished dinner, including dessert and no crepes! Camie begs me to intervene, so I ask the Manager if he can give us some more details about what is going on with coconuts? It is at this point, we hear him say coconut crabs!  Then, perfectly timed, two staff magically appear in the dining hut, with these huge crabs, that they had just plucked from the jungle behind us. It turns out that these colorful CRABS, only eat coconuts, which makes them very sweet eating for humans, but the meat is very high in cholesterol, so you shouldn't eat a lot! The Mystery is solved, but sadly no crepes for us!

Each small crab sells for about 200,000 IDR or $13 USD.

We only had about 8 hours of port time in KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia today, due to Port operations. I went out with Delia to see one of the most notable buildings in town, the floating mosque or Masjid Bandaraya. Our GRAB driver actually took our picture when we asked him to wait for us, and then take us to the mall afterwards.

MALAYSIA , on BORNEO ISLAND made palm seed oil their biggest export back in 1966 and was the top global exporter until 2008, when Indonesia surpassed them. Sadly, the resulting tropical deforestation has created major habitat losses and population declines for the Borneon Orangutans, Pygmy Elephants and Proboscis Monkeys . Many of us on the ship took tours to see these amazing creatures and I wanted to share some of their amazing photos too.

BORNEO ISLAND is a fascinating place, that I had honestly only heard of from the reality tv show Survivor. I'm still learning so much, but I had no idea it is the largest island in Asia and 3rd largest island in the World! It is a mini continent, with 3 different Countries sharing the island's land mass ( Indonesia 73%, Malaysia 26% and Brunei 1% ). We are only going to 2 ports in Malaysia now, one in each of the states of Sarawak and Sabah . Below is a video that highlights and explains thing well.
