Still in Philly!

So even though the Ship is a 31 years old, it is being treated as a brand new ship by all the regulatory agencies. So the inspections, testing and certifications have been many, somewhat surprising and some complicated. However, communication continues to be timely and informative. We all have faith in our Team, that we are going to get there. On this Tuesday's zoom, we found out that even though our insurance was in place, for us to board the ship and start living there, there is a 2 day waiting period needed for Official Notice with the insurance carrier. So now Friday 8/2, is our expected embarkation date in Belfast! Once off the zoom, I promptly called Aer Lingus, spoke with a gentleman with the loveliest accent, and moved my flight again - this time to 8/1 Thursday night. We are having another zoom Thursday at 2pm, so I will hopefully have all confirmed prior to getting airborne.

Today, I got to see the Ship's Manifest for our Belfast embarking and it was interesting to see my neighbors names, for the first time. We have an app where we have been communicating for months, but most are just identified there by first name or nickname. There are currently 140 passengers listed on the Manifest and only 13 are couples that share the same last name. I knew we had a higher than normal number of solo travelers, but didn't expect that many. On the zoom Tuesday, 50 of them were together at the Marriott in Belfast.

At this point in time, I have met about 30 between the dry dock tour, hotel stays, my trip to Canary Islands and four I met in Mexico in January.

In other ship news, we heard all the alcohol and frozen food was being delivered to the ship today and the fresh produce and veggies arrive Monday morning. So the hope is we will finally set sail Monday 8/5 evening or Tuesday 8/6. The plan is to head to Iceland, where we have a non-refundable Port reservation from 8/8 to 8/11 and it takes 2 to 3 days to sail there. Stand By and keep Fingers Crossed!

We had a beautiful sunny day to explore Wellington ! Was a very nice change from the stormy, big swells weather we have had the last two days! Wellington is the Capital city of New Zealand and the CBD is nice and big with lots of shops and museums. We didn't make it to the LOTR studios due to the time crunch but we took the cable car up to the top, for a scenic overlook of the port and then leisurley walk down through the Botantical Gardens, parks and historical cemetary.

Rotorua became a bonus city for us. Our Port stay in Tauranga got cut down to one day, due to NZ biosecurity regulations and since we really wanted to do Hobbiton, we decided to get off the ship and stay in hotels and get back on the ship, in a few days. Due to a variety of factors, the Ship ended up doing a quick pick up of us in Tauranga, three days later. The Kiwi's we encountered along the way, who helped with all our last minute details, were amazingly kind, hospitable and generous. Below is our tired, chilly group huddled at the security shed, outside the Port in the wee hours (1:30 am) Monday morning, awaiting our final hurdle of getting back on our Home. Home sweet home! What an adventure!

Rotorua, New Zealand is known for it's geothermal activity ( geysers, mud pools, hot springs) and rich Maori culture . I saw lots of that last time I was here in 2016, so this time I wanted to see their Redwoods in Whakarewarewa Forest. John and Colleen joined me in exploring. Their redwoods are smaller than the ones in Muir Woods California, but still impressive. Both are planted forest dating back to around 1908.
