I went on a 24 hour adventure with these fun shipmates into Pattaya, Thailand to explore Nong Nooch Wonder World. Noted on the web as one of the top 10 Botanical Gardens in the World, it is certainly the largest in S. Asia at over 500 to 600 acres. Since the place is so massive; open from 8am to 6pm; the heat is so oppressive and we are at a tender port, we decided to spend the night, so we could be there at the opening, the next day and make a fun night before too!

After finally finding the right Hotel in the complex, there are 5 of them, we headed out for dinner at a Russian, Polish, Thai Restaurant Whitney searched out, called the White Corner. (There are a large number of Russian's currently living in Thailand since the war with Ukraine) and Terri is Polish and who doesn't love Perogies!

The meal started with complimentary pickles & cabbage appetiser and a very strong shot of vodka, for us each!  We were hungry, ordered quite an assortment, forgot photos, but below, from their website, paints the picture. Afterwards we all had fantastic massages, two doors down the street and then back to Resort (show below), just before the sky's let loose with a big thunder and lighting storm!

The World / Resort is kind of Disney like in that is that there are themes all around. Trams big and little, kid camps, museums, cafes,  a cat cafe, multiple themed restaurants, massage shop, souvenirs, snack stands, Elephant rides and Thailand cultural shows and elephant performances - all in addition to over 18,000 plants and it seems that many more animal statues, planters, sculptures and pebble art mosaics. Again they keep a ton of people employed here, creating and maintaining the place like the Sanctuary of Truth, so it is good for the economy, with over 5,000 visitors a day.

We were up for breakfast at 7 and then hired a private small tram to take us around the gardens, for an overview, because it came with a guide. Problem was, guide barely spoke English, so we had a hard time figuring out the history of this crazy place. Even with translate app his answers were questionable. Did it start as gardens? What's with all the statues? Is there a master plan? It seems to be growing with no real connections, that we could make out. Web & Chat GPT seem vague on details too! We had fun with it, finding more and more absurd things, until the heat won out!

Just the other day a friend asked me if I got enough down time while living this lifestyle. My answer was "you have to make it !" In the beginning, it was go, go, go, every port. We had lots of FOMO ( fear of missing out ) and we tried to cram in as much as possible at every port. Sea days, were our only down time and there were never enough. It was a tad exhausting. Now two years into this life, I can say there are some ports that just don't call me and I opt to get other things done. Kuantan, Malaysia was one of the Ports. I never got off the ship, either day we were here. I intended to this morning, but we had storms with loud thunder late into the night and then was awoken by a crew alarm around 6:45am. My energy was low, there were shuttle issues, town was an hour ride away and there is alot of air pollution, ( due to neighboring Indonesia burning organic materials, in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season ). So I bagged my plans and continued working on my never ending TO DO LIST!

During our two years of sailing we have had several Shipmates come and go for a variety of reasons. Their health, has sadly been the reason for many departures. Cindy Harvey , would have loved to have lived out her days here on the Odyssey and even bought a second cabin and had an adjoining door added, to have a care provider, stay with her full time. However, Cindy's limited mobility, pain and confinement got to be too much - so she left us a few months ago. She went to an assisted living facility, on the coast of Oregon, to be near her family. Tragically she fell, was trying to recover, slipped into a coma and sadly passed away this week.
