Vihara Avalokiteshvara Graha or Guan Yin Temple is near 500 Lohan, so we also toured the grounds of this large Temple complex. It's dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy and is one the tallest brass statues of her in SE Asia. She is just over 55' tall, coated in 22 carat gold and is surrounded by scenic dragon fruit plantations. The tile work is intricate and textured with great details. The whole place is very tranquil and calming for meditation and prayer.

The details were so well done in the two temples. Their were gold statues of the goddess everywhere, kept thinking of the phrase " and the Goddess goes to ..." as a play on our Oscar awards.

When we were finishing up our tour of the grounds a funeral party was pulling into the grounds with a police escort first, then the below hearse and several cars following, in a procession, like we do at home. They drove to back area of Temple and put casket up on a blue draped stage. Then all the men, who were dressed similarily, were lining up in front of casket for photo's. Our driver told us they would then burn the body of the deceased and the casket, in the building next door. It looked like they were all having a catered lunch in back of Temple. IT was interesting to observe their customs and I discretely took a picture of the hearse, as we were driving out.

APOPO, SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

Before coming to Cambodia , I sadly have to admit I was unaware of the landmine problems they face. On our first night in Siem Reap, where we hiked up the hill to try and see the sunset views, there was a small band of men playing instruments and our tuk tuk driver explained to me they were victims of landmine explosions who had lost limbs or their sight and were trying to make money via donations to support their families.

Ta Prohm Temple ( AKA Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), CAMBODIA

I rallied for our last temple of the morning, because I heard this one was unique and I think it was my favorite. Ta Prohm was built starting in 1186 by King Jayavarman VII as a Buddhist monastery and university dedicated to the king's mother. It was left mostly un-restored so that huge banyan and silk cotton trees grow directly over and through the walls. In 2001, the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie was filmed here.

ANGKOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK, CAMBODIA

Angkor , a UNESCO World Heritage Centre , is one of the most important archaelogical sites in SE Asia . It extends over 400 square km (250 miles). It contains hundreds of distinct structural remains and major temple sites (with around 72 recognized major structures). Below are a few other temple sites we saw. The first two were from a distance, on our sunset hike, the first night.
